Rana Jordahl

After receiving a B.A. in Advertising, Rana spent the next decade in different agencies in both Des Moines, IA and Atlanta, GA focusing on account management, media planning, and graphic design. She transitioned to fine art upon moving to Charleston in 2002 and has worked as a full-time professional painter since then. She describes her style as contemporary impressionism and loves to capture her subjects in a mixture of abstraction and representative form using thick, expressive brushstrokes. “I have a love for painting the animals that I grew up around from my Midwest upbringing as well as from the Lowcountry, including blue herons, egrets, roseate spoonbills, other shorebirds, shrimp, cows and chickens. I also enjoy the creative process and flexibility of setting up still life arrangements. Throw in a pinch of landscapes, and those are my favorite muses!”

Rana loves creating paintings for the infinite possibilities from which she has to choose: from a bird’s wings in flight, the cast light of an object onto another in a still life, to the motion of water and the sparkling light on its surface. “Whatever I want to convey about my subjects - softness, drama, light and shadow, energy, color - it is endless, and it inspires me to paint every day.”

Jordahl is a Co-Owner of Lowcountry Artists Gallery as well as being represented by Gallery By SEWE (Southeastern Wildlife Exposition), both located in downtown Charleston, SC. Her nationally collected oil paintings are represented in private and corporate collections. She resides on Daniel Island where she keeps a dedicated studio space.

Rana is an associate member of Oil Painters of America (OPA), American Impressionist Society (AIS), and National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society (NOAPS).
