Shirley Springs Kratz

Shirley Springs kratz was raised in Marion, SC and Myrtle Beach, SC. She attended Columbia College and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in chemistry, and worked as a medical research assistant at MUSC. She has lived in Charleston and Mount Pleasant for 45 years. She finally began to enjoy her life-long love of creating all kinds of art and painting after leaving research to stay home with her children. For 25 years she was a tile and ceramic artist and owner of Complements Tile in Mount Pleasant, SC. She began painting in watercolors in 1978, moving into oils in just the last 5 years. She has studied with numerous local and nationally known artists and is a member of the Charleston Artists Guild, and the Mount Pleasant artist Guild.
I paint because I love art, our Lowcountry, and the ocean. I love the light on the lovely scenes, people,and flowers that surround me. Like many aritist, changes in the light on a landscape , flower, or face are what attract me first.
