Guy Milligan

"I want to share the joy of living by creating a quality of light and space in paintings of Low Country motifs. Another challenge that continues to motivate me is to portray coastal men and women working at shoreline, boat works, fisheries, and warehouses."
Guy Milligan was born in St Louis, MO with a keen interest in the arts. He was educated at Washington University School of Fine Arts, where his studies provided a solid foundation for a career in advertising, art, and illustration. After working in the field for several years, he ultimately founded Guy Milligan and Associates, his own graphic design and illustration company. His work was commissioned by some of America's top companies- Monsanto, 7Up, and Mallinckrodt to name a few. After many inspirational visits to the Low Country of South Carolina, he moved to Hilton Head Island in1987. Living near the South Carolina marshes and the inter-coastal waterways, provided Guy with 30 years of endless subjects that he painted on a daily basis. Excursions to marinas and oyster companies, where he portrayed the workers, fisherman, and the people that make their living from the beautiful seacoast and waterways. Over the years, Guy's paintings have earned awards and honors including "Best in Show" for multiple years and "Peoples Choice". This recognition came from national juried shows, the South Carolina Watercolor Society, the Society of Bluffton Artists, and the Aiken Center for the Arts. His watercolors and oils are in many corporate and private collections and included in the book "Mendocino: A Painted Pictorial" which is in the Smithsonian Collection of Arts and Letters. Guy currently resides in Aiken, South Carolina, where he continues to paint daily.
